FAQ

Appointments are usually available same day, if not the following day.
At the Montreal Sleep Center our patients do their sleep study at home, in the comfort of their own bed.
The average time to get sleep study results back is 7-10 days.
You will receive a phone call with your results. Afterwards we will send you a copy of your full report via email. We will also fax a copy of the report to any physician you request.
No. We highly recommend you rent one of our CPAP machines for 7-10 days in order to get used to the machine and trial different masks. However, if you wish to purchase a CPAP right away, it is possible. Note: Any rental fee you pay is fully deducted from the price of the CPAP you later purchase. In other words, your cost is the same whether you try it first or buy it immediately after a sleep that is positive for sleep apnea and/or significant snoring.
All new CPAP machines are extremely quiet and your sleeping partner will not notice it.

CPAP machines are allowed on the plane as long as you have a copy of your prescription with you. We highly encourage that you carry your CPAP on the plane with you and not check it as baggage. The airline cannot charge you extra for carrying on your CPAP bag.
We do not treat insomnia. We recommend that persons suffering from insomnia contact the sleep disorders clinic at a hospital for testing and treatment.
We do not treat patients under the age of eighteen. We recommend contacting a children’s hospital for testing and treatment.
No, the tests are not painful. The sleep testing equipment attaches to you in bed with Velcro straps and medical tape.
The wait time for a sleep test in the Montreal area can be one to three years. Once the test is completed it is common for patients to wait 3-4 months for results. Sleep tests at our clinic can often be scheduled on the same day or next day and detailed results are ready 7-10 days later. Treatment of snoring and sleep apnea usually involves the use of a CPAP machine and mask. This equipment is not provided by the hospital system in Quebec and so patients must still use private clinics for purchasing the treatment equipment. In the end, the cost of the sleep test is the only expense that a patient can save in Quebec and that might mean waiting years and years. Finally, the cost of a clinic sleep test may be covered by your private insurance (not RAMQ) or the receipt may be used with income tax. Our clinic can also help with a financing and/or a payment plan.
Sleep tests and/or CPAP equipment are not covered by provincial health insurance (RAMQ). You can still use our services by paying the fees yourself and then using the receipts with your income tax. Any refund you receive from the government will depend on your personal income tax situation. If you are paying the fees yourself we may be able to help you with financing and/or a payment plan.
Private insurance coverage for sleep testing and equipment varies from company to company and also depends on the plan you have with the private insurance company. From our experience, the cost of the treatment equipment is covered at 80-100% by private insurance companies in Quebec. This is usually the most expensive part of the process. The cost of sleep testing is a different matter. Some private insurance companies in Quebec cover the testing (at 50-100%) and others do not cover it at all. If the sleep testing is not covered by your insurance company we recommend trying to use the receipt from the test with your income tax. The sleep test is usually the least expensive part of the process. We recommend contacting your insurance company before you come to our office for your appointment.
